Finland and Arctic Council take aim at climate change
At a meeting in Alaska, Finland takes over from the US as chair of the Arctic Council at a critical moment for the environment and residents of the Arctic region.
Although climate change, as noted by the Finnish Meteorological Institute, is evident in Finnish winter temperatures, ice in the Baltic Sea remains an annual obstacle for sea traffic. A fleet of icebreakers clears the shipping lanes (slideshow).
Icebreakers are a great showpiece of Finland’s Arctic know-how. Take a cruise with icebreaker Sampo and try floating in the icy sea – an ice-breaking experience not to forget!
Wild food is a big international trend, but there are very few places where nature is as accessible as it is in Finland. Pick or catch your own food and enjoy.
