The town of Naantali, in SW Finland, grew up around the the Brigittine convent that was built in the area in 1443. The old quarter of Naantali is one the best preserved areas of urban wooden housing in the country. Most of the old quarter dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. The municipal plan there is free-form, partly dating from the Middle Ages. Naanatali is a bustling holiday town in summer. Among its popular sites for visitors are the convent church and the smart guest marina.
