The Märket lighthouse is situated in the Baltic Sea, west of the Åland Islands, on the island of Märket. It is the most westerly point of Finland. Built in 1885, the lighthouse was manned until 1976, when the light became automated. The island is partly Finnish and partly Swedish territory, having been divided thus in 1809 under the Treaty of Fredrikshamn (Hamina). It is now home to hundreds of grey seals. The Finnish part of Märket belongs to the municipality of Eckerö in the Åland Islands.
